Despite the easing of some restrictions, the pandemic is not over. GP Practices are still open and we are now busier than ever before. Our Practice is not yet able to deliver the same level of service as we did before the pandemic.
It is vital that we protect staff, patients and people in the communities by keeping physical contact to a minimum. We are prioritising the patients who have the greatest clinical need and are the most vulnerable, and introducing measures to help limit the number of people in the practice at any one time for safety reasons.
The Right Care. GP Reception staff are a vital part of the health care team and may ask personal questions to direct you to the best support. This was the case even before the pandemic. We have highly skilled multi-disciplinary team members within the practice including nurses, mental health practitioner, physiotherapist, pharmacy team and community connector. You will be directed to the right person who can provide you with the right care.
Our team’s main objective is to provide excellent, high quality patient care and services. Our staff help patients with enquiries and any problems that they have, from booking appointments, ordering medication to arranging emergency ambulances.
Portland Medical Practice operates a Zero Tolerance Policy and an Unacceptable Actions Policy.
Our staff are entitled to feel safe, protected and secure in their workplace. Any abusive, aggressive or threatening behaviour will be reported to the Practice Manager and where necessary, acted upon. Please treat our staff with the respect that they deserve.

Community Staff
Dietician, Aimee Mitchell – Aimee provides a weight management clinic within the surgery by appointment or by GP referral.
Advanced Physiotherapist Practitioner Helen Brown is based at Portland Medical Practice two days per week. Tuesday and Thursday with some availability for on the day appointments on Tuesdays.
General Practice Clinical Pharmacists Hazel and Heather. Our Pharmacy Team provide daily support and guidance for our clinical team, working closely with staff dealing daily with patient medication queries and hospital discharge letters.
Community Connector Sharon offers support for our patients and will work with patients to find community services to make a positive difference to personal circumstances. Support with bereavement services, benefits, housing or work, help with developing existing or additional interests or activities, or worries in relation to personal relationships or managing daily life. Sharon can chat with you about your needs. Appointments for this service are by GP referral.
Mental Health Practitioners Charlie, Emma and Tanya offer telephone and face to face appointment support for our patients.
Welfare Advisor Tracey can help patients struggling with financial issues relating to benefits, fuel poverty, debt, and rent arrears and eviction.
